Our Mission...
The mission of Parsippany-Troy Hills School District is to provide effective instruction in all program areas, to develop the learning potential of all students in the district, to build skills for a lifetime of learning, and to develop a feeling of self-worth and confidence that will allow students to become productive members of society.
In keeping with the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District’s mission above and guided by the American Association of School Librarians, the philosophy of the Lake Parsippany Elementary School Library is to instill a love of learning through multiple literacies, thus creating a foundation for achievement in our global world. Fundamentally, reading is a lifelong skill and needed for success in our 21st Century Learners. Instilling this passion for literature and information in the elementary years is the cornerstone for success as our students persevere on their educational journey continuing into adulthood. To advance in our rapid-paced, global society, learners must develop high-level thinking skills, attitudes, and responsibilities. The focus of the Library Program has moved from the confines of a typical library to a dynamic learning space with fluid boundaries layered by diverse needs and influenced by an interactive global community.
We acknowledge the importance of our student’s personal identity and the fact this identity interrelates to how we understand, socialize, and make meaning of information and the world around us. We encourage opportunities for our students to create personal meaning, listen to, and respect personal meaning of others.
We believe in the importance of collaboration with teachers to further support units of study or themes, offering further opportunities for students to share knowledge from classroom activities, collaborate with student peers, and create new knowledge. When our students explore topics, the knowledge they gain becomes a part of who they are. Teachers working together across disciplines offer students rich connections to further their understanding and create their personal framework.
We support our school community with all efforts to increase our student’s awareness of the importance of multiple literacies including but not limited to the PTA’s Annual Book Fair as well as the Parsippany Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.
We partner with our district elementary, middle, and high school libraries along with our town and county public libraries to synergize information and ensure our student’s growth is constant and evolving.
Our mission is to give equal access to our patrons, a welcoming environment with a robust collection of multiple formats of literature, technology, and the tools and skills necessary to apply the information learned for further growth and development. We are all learners at Lake Par: students, teachers and administration alike, and our Library Media Center strives to serve the needs of all of our patrons. We provide students the opportunity to pursue personal inquiry which is an essential step in creating enthusiastic learners.
Our vision is to provide an environment that empowers our students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. We create a safe place where everyone is teacher, learner, producer, and contributor.
